Wettable TiB2 Cathode for Aluminum Electrolysis: A Review

Abstract Titanium diboride (TiB 2 ) is considered a promising material for wettable cathodes in aluminum electrolysis. The demand associated with the development of inert anode technologies to eliminate CO emissions caused by conventional reduction process. has been given special attention due its superior properties, such as high wettability, good electrical conductivity, wear resistance, and excellent chemical stability. In this paper, we discuss different synthesis techniques used preparation TiB cathode material. main methods are sintering, electrodeposition, plasma spraying. Electrodeposition be most reliable low-cost method preparation. vertical anode–cathode distance can reduced introducing wetted cathodes, through which specific energy consumption significantly. For longer lifetime, should resistant electrolyte penetration. Further research conducted understand electrochemical behavior low-temperature electrolytes. Graphical
